From 1963 to 1966 William Hartnell starred as the beloved Doctor. He was born on January 8, 1908 in city of St Pancras, Long, England and died in and died April 23 1975 \u00a0due to heart failure. In 1925 he entered working under Frank Benson<\/a> as a general stagehand, later appearing in many Shakespearean plays.<\/p>\n During World War II William Hartnell served in the Tank Corps, but then suffered a nervous breakdown and went back to acting. \u00a0Due to his performance in This Sporting Life, Verity Lambert, the producer of the future show Doctor Who saw his talent and offered him the part of The Doctor. Little is known about the Doctor, for reasons he has chosen, his name included. When we first meet the Doctor he is a frail, crotchety old man, centuries old, highly intelligent and absolutely clever. His mind being so far past those around him it was easy to for The Doctor to criticize any being whom he considered primitive or naive. This aspect of intellectual superiority was not without the other half of him which showed the Doctor\u2019s great compassion, enormous warmth, childish delight, sense of mischief and adventure.<\/p>\n The First Doctor\u2019s first appearance was in \u201cAn Unearthly Child\u201d. Starting in a junkyard in London, later at a school we meet the three companions of the First Doctor who will comprise the beginning of the series. Ian Chesterton, later known as Sir Ian of Jaffa, portrayed William Russell, is a science teacher at Coat Hill School. Barbara Wright, played by Jacqueline Hill, a history teacher at Coat Hill School and friend of Ian. Both of whom have an interest in Susan Foreman, the granddaughter of The Doctor, brilliant and unusual, portrayed by Carole Ann Ford.<\/p>\n We find out that both the Doctor and Susan are exiles from only planet and people from another time as well, and have been traveling through space and time in TARDIS. Soon the Doctor, unhappy and a bit hostile takes them against their will to the Stone Age.<\/p>\n The reason that the first Doctor is so excellent is that you see for the first time who he was right after escaping from Gallifrey. You see a man, who is bitter, hardened by the past, placing others in danger just to satisfy his own curiosity. Yet we start to find pieces of the Doctor that you experience if you started watching the reestablishment of the show in 2005. Through the adventures he had, and the things he discovered, his nature began to soften, growing fonder of Ian and Barbara over time. The heroic\u2019s of the Time Lord and the love for humanity that we see today started here. In the beginning he was just a man with little hope, but we soon find that he is no ordinary man, he is the Doctor. Doctor Who, no just the Doctor, thank you very much.<\/p>\n When soon discover two races major races that play a big part in the development of the Doctor. The Daleks, a race of mutant cyborgs genetically modified and integrated with tank like robotic mechanical shell and purged of all emotions. And the Cybermen, a race of cyborgs who were originally wholly organic species of humanoids that began to implant more and more artificial parts as a means of self-preservation until they became whole machines with a human brain, coldly logical and calculating with every emotion deleted from their minds. \u00a0These threats to all life as we know it, sparked the fury of the Time Lord, the First Doctor, into action to stop them at all cost, including sacrificing his own life. This was where we see the First Doctor\u2019s views on justice become clearer and a hero is born.<\/p>\n When coming to the end of the First Doctor\u2019s journey in the battle against the Cybermen in the Antarctic, we see how time has worn his body down collapsed inside the TARDIS. However his spirit has changed from an old man, bitter and alone to a free, witty, clever, brave and spirited adventurer. We witness \u00a0the first regeneration of the Doctor, psychically and mentally changed and new.<\/p>\n<\/p>\nThe First Doctor<\/h2>\n
