PARIS<\/a> \u2014 The Obama administration is distributing videos showing a chemical weapons attack in Syria to help convince Americans and Congress that a military intervention against the Syrian government is necessary, Secretary of State <\/a>John Kerry<\/span> said Sunday.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press conference in Paris, Kerry<\/span> said the videos make clear that the attack is not something Americans can ignore.<\/p>\n

The United States accused Syrian President Bashar Assad\u2019s government of using chemical weapons in an Aug. 21 assault that killed more than 1,400 people. The videos show victims, including children, exhibiting what appear to be symptoms of nerve gas poisoning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose videos make it clear to people that these are real human beings, real children, parents being affected in ways that are unacceptable to anybody, anywhere by any standards,\u201d Kerry<\/span> said. \u201cAnd the United States of America that has always stood with others to say we will not allow this \u2014 this is not our values, it\u2019s not who we are.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerry<\/span> is in Europe trying to raise European support for a strike in Syria and also discussing Middle East peace negotiations.<\/p>\n

Back in the U.S., the White House is making a big push to rally members of Congress. Lawmakers will consider a resolution authorizing the \u201climited and specified use\u201d of U.S. armed forces against Syria for no more than 90 days and barring American ground troops from combat.<\/p>\n

Another bipartisan, classified briefing for Congress is set for Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe vast majority of members of Congress \u2014 House and Senate \u2014are undecided. And that\u2019s why the videos are being shown and the briefings are taking place.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is very disturbing that children and adults are being tortured by Syrian government and actually using nerve gas on their own people.\u00a0 I am outraged.\u00a0 I believe that what Kerry is doing is correct.\u00a0 I think there should be an attack but not on ground with soldiers.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to see any more of our men being killed.\u00a0 Kerry<\/span> has a lot of work ahead of him.<\/p>\n
