This Lion Server Review<\/strong> will expose the good, the bad and the ugly about Lion Server.<\/p>\n If you have not yet gotten a chance to use this software, I strongly recommend reading about some of the issues it has been having.<\/p>\n Obviously, for the workplace, it is mandatory for everything to work as smooth as possible.<\/p>\n So what are some of the problems with Lion Server? First, Lets start with the \u201cGood\u201d.<\/p>\n The good thing about this version of Apple\u2019s server is that its updated. Which means more features and tools.<\/p>\n One thing that was added, to ALL Lion software, was Mission control. Cool little app to quickly be able to access applications.<\/p>\n It looks just like a Ipad except its on a desktop. Aside from that, I can think of too many things to say.<\/p>\n Now, to the part that I did think I would have to get into. As you have seen in this Lion Server Review<\/em> so far, the only cool thing about this software is the new apps they put in.<\/p>\n But what about the apps they put in that just doesn\u2019t work? Where can we put those without hurting apple\u2019s feelings?<\/p>\n You can\u2019t. I work in a mixed environment with a Mac Mini Server running OSX Lion Server.<\/strong><\/p>\n We are currently transitioning from PCs and Macs to just Macs. One thing that has been changed and causes a ton of issues is the SMB protocol.<\/p>\n Once a\u00a0glamorous\u00a0attraction<\/span> in Snow Leopard Server<\/em>, SMB has become crap in OS X Lion Server.<\/p>\n Apparently Apple decided to use their very own SMB and it causes all other devices to crap out when attempting to use it.<\/p>\n Its not all devices that have problems. Its just a few devices like a Ricoh copier that uses SMB to scan to a computer.<\/p>\n Every single time it is attempted it fails. It makes a connection to the server but whenever a document is attempted to scan a transmission error occurs.<\/p>\n Note, that issue was just on SMB. As you have seen so far above in this Lion Server Review<\/span> is that there aren\u2019t many good things and you just so the \u201cbad\u201d of this software.<\/p>\n Now, lets get to the \u201cugly\u201d. WebDav is a very cool feature. To able to connect IWorks from IOS devices to save directly to the server is a great feature.<\/p>\n However, its a little buggy. I remember that I had WebDav working perfect with teachers having access to a common folder, as well as students.<\/p>\n But the problem was that every time users were added, it began to give weird errors that did not describe anything.<\/p>\n It just said, \u201cContact your system administrator\u201d. What the hell is that?
