What could you do with a couple of extra hours each day?

This post will explore tips for finding more hours in your day for the important things.

I just read an article in Dumb Little Man entitled, “Increasing Your Productivity: The Big Picture and the Little Picture,” that proposes we look at personal productivity on those two levels…

Both vary by person. Big picture productivity refers to your overall productivity, not just for a specific task. Conversely, little picture productivity refers to task-specific productivity. To increase your personal productivity, the author suggests that you focus on both of these simultaneously.

Stay with me here, and this will become clearer.

Tips for Improving Big-Picture Personal Productivity

1. Start taking initiative if you tend to react to people and situations. Do you wait for things to get better or make things get better?
2. Have a vision for your future. Are you the type of person who wanders aimlessly without specific goals?
3. Learn to say no to things that don’t move you toward your goals. Do you have difficulty saying no to requests that only serve others?

Tips for Increasing Little-Picture Personal Productivity

1. Do the hard stuff first. Motivational speaker, Brian Tracy, calls this “eating your frog”. I follow this tip regularly and find that tackling the tough stuff when I’m freshest lifts a heavy weight off my shoulders. Give it a try.
2. Don’t get distracted. This is especially difficult with so many things demanding our attention. One of my mentors suggest that I block out 2 hours every day where I refuse to do anything else but what is absolutely crucial to my success. This works great.
3. Get the right tools. Oftentimes, people get started in small business or online marketing on a shoe-string budget. Don’t make the mistake of being cheap and not getting the tools you need for business success.

To increase productivity, be sure to work on the big-picture tips and little-picture tips above. You will be able to lead a more productive life by balancing your focus on both levels of personal productivity.
Additional tips for improving productivity:

1. Get started earlier. Wake up and get out of bed a little earlier. You may find that those first couple of hours are perfect for getting those important things done before everyone starts making demands on my time.

2. Use your car as a mobile university. If personal development is important to you and if you spend part of your day driving, listen to audio books and motivational tapes to make that time more productive.

3. Stay focused. Focus on the task at hand and avoid “time-stealers” like browsing the web.

4. Start delegating personal chores or outsourcing business tasks. This will allow you to free up time to do important things.

5. Turn off the TV. Television can have a hypnotic effect that tempts you to sit and just watch. This can be a huge time waster.

The above tips showed you how to increase productivity. These tips should help you free up time so you’ll feel like you found more hours daily for other things.

Are there other tips you’ve used to improve personal productivity?

Visit again soon for more Personal Development and Personal Productivity tips!

You may also enjoy reading about Personal Management.

If you found this KEYWORD post valuable, please tell a friend.
