{"id":8,"date":"2012-07-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/empowernetwork.com\/irishjohnn\/pm-willing-to-hold-eu-referendum\/"},"modified":"2012-07-01T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-07-01T00:00:00","slug":"pm-willing-to-hold-eu-referendum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/empowernetwork.com\/irishjohnn\/pm-willing-to-hold-eu-referendum\/","title":{"rendered":"PM willing to hold EU referendum"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>PM willing to hold EU referendum<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Why David :- what are the reasons to hold the EU referendum?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>David Cameron has sought to reassure eurosceptics he is prepared to <strong>hold a referendum on the EU\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; but only when there is a \u201creal choice\u201d for voters.<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister insisted that an immediate in\/out\u00a0EU \u00a0referendum \u2013 which he is under mounting pressure from within his own party to deliver \u2013 was not what the vast majority of people wanted\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;line-height: 1.333em\">But, in an article for The Sunday Telegraph, he acknowledged the need to ensure the UK\u2019s position within an evolving European Union has \u201cthe full-hearted support of the British people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;line-height: 1.333em\">\u201cThere is more to come \u2013 further moves, probably further treaties \u2013 where we can take forward our interests, safeguard the single market and stay out of a federal Europe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;line-height: 1.333em\">\u201cHow do we take the British people with us on this difficult and complicated journey?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;line-height: 1.333em\">How do we avoid the wrong paths of either meekly accepting the status quo or giving up altogether and preparing to leave? It will undoubtedly be hard going, but taking the right path in politics often is. As we get closer to the end point we will need to consider how best to get the full-hearted support of the British people, whether it is in a general election or a referendum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;line-height: 1.333em\">\u201cAs I have said, for me the two words \u2018Europe\u2019 and \u2018referendum\u2019 can go together, particularly if we really are proposing a change in how our country is governed, but let us get the people a real choice first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;line-height: 1.333em\">Mr Cameron said he agrees with the \u201cvast majority of the British people\u201d who he said were not happy with the UK\u2019s relationship with the EU. There were large amounts of EU legislation that should be scrapped, he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;line-height: 1.333em\">\u201cPut simply, for those of us outside the eurozone, far from being too little Europe, there is too much of it. Too much cost, too much bureaucracy, too much meddling in issues that belong to nation states or civil society or, indeed, individuals,\u201d he said. \u201cWhole swathes of legislation covering social issues, working time and home affairs should, in my view, be scrapped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;line-height: 1.333em\">Nearly 100 Conservative MPs have written to Mr Cameron urging him to make it a legal commitment to hold a poll on the UK\u2019s relationship with the EU during the next paliament.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;line-height: 1.333em\">Mr Cameron\u2019s article comes after the latest EU summit to tackle the eurozone crisis ended on Friday with moves towards closer ties in the EU. At the end of the gathering, he told reporters that he was not in favour of an in\/out referendum, leading some observers to think he was ruling out a popular vote altogether.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;line-height: 1.333em\">Is David the\u00a0PM willing to hold EU referendum ?
