Ever heard \u201cChange Your Story, Change your Life\u201d? Well it\u2019s true. Most of us have these very elaborate stories of where we came from and the struggles we\u2019ve had to endure. But sharing that story over and over again does us no good, in fact it makes it harder for us to create a new story.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s the thing.<\/strong> We make up stories about every single thing that\u2019s happened to us. The challenges, the victories, the trauma\u2019s, the fear\u2019s, the excitement. All of it.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s an awesome example of how we WARP our stories based on perception.<\/span><\/p>\n Have you ever shared a funny story that happened to you, and then changed a few things around, perhaps\u00a0exaggerated\u00a0a little bit\u2026 just to make it a little bit funnier? And then you shared it with someone else and exaggerated it just a little bit MORE to make it even FUNNIER?<\/p>\n After telling that story many times, you\u2019ll be so used to telling the exaggerated \u201cFunny\u201d version, that you won\u2019t even remember the real story. In fact, your exaggerated version becomes the real story.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n We do this all the time with memories from our childhood, stories of our struggles and challenges. We have our stories about what happened, our perspective, our perception\u2026 and then there is what actually happened<\/em>.<\/p>\n When we tell these stories over and over again, not only do we start manipulating them and changing them without being totally aware that we are doing so\u2026 but that story becomes ingrained in us. It becomes our reality\u2026 and it becomes really<\/em> difficult to shift and change.<\/p>\n Your past does not define your future.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Your story of your past struggles does not define who you are. Some of us wear our stories of struggle like a badge of honour. We are proud<\/em>\u00a0of our stories. But they do not always serve us, except to reflect on and look back on the lessons we learned as we celebrate how far we have come. Living in our past stories\u00a0do not allow us to move forward in life. They taint our canvas so our painting is skewed\u2026<\/p>\n When we change our story<\/strong> to suit the person we want to BECOME, we essentially clean our slate, start with a blank canvas. We can then start to create a beautiful painting on our clean canvas.<\/p>\n\n
