A little more than five year\u2019s after my aortic dissection\u00a0I have learned a lot about my <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Heart Health<\/span> and want to share this information in my series<strong> Let\u2019s Talk<\/strong>: <strong>Heart Health<\/strong> with others in the hopes that I can help them keep their hearts healthy.<\/p>\n<h2>Let\u2019s Talk: Diet and Heart Health<\/h2>\n<p>Eat less fat, lower your salt intake, Cholesterol is bad: We\u2019ve all heard the talk\u2026Eat healthy for a stronger, healthier heart. But are we really listening?<br \/>\nStatistics would suggest no, we hear the warnings but don\u2019t take heed.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a title=\"CDC Heart Health\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/features\/heartmonth\/\" target=\"_blank\">CDC Features -Heart Month<\/a> Report in February<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\u201cCardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; one in every three deaths is from heart disease and stroke, equal to 2,200 deaths per day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the most simple things you can do to increase the health of your heart, thereby decreasing the risk of heart attack and even stroke is to be careful about what\u00a0 you put in your body. I know, I know, you are thinking \u201cWho has time to read labels and crunch numbers on everything they eat?\u201d Honestly, I think people make it way harder than it has to be.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heartbeatblog.com\/heartbeat\/?page_id=2\"><\/a> In this series I will walk you through some very simple, basic guidelines for improving your eating style for your <em>Heart Health.<\/em> Starting with the very simple guideline of planning ahead.\u00a0 By planning ahead you get the jump on your day, give yourself the opportunity to make arrangements for those \u201cchallenging moments\u201d like \u201cwhat to eat for lunch when everyone is having Mcdonalds.\u201d Planning ahead also allows you to ensure\u00a0 more rounded meals that include something from all the food groups and schedule meal times so you are eating <strong><em>Before<\/em><\/strong> you are so hungry you can and will eat a house. The Mayo Clinic site has a great list of 8 things you can do to make healthy changes in your diet. <a title=\"Mayo Clinic\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mayoclinic.com\/health\/heart-healthy-diet\/NU00196\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a> for more details.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Let\u2019s Talk: Stress and\u00a0 Heart Health<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"\/greggreiman\/blog\/first-one-wow\/\"><\/a>Stress is a big factor in the everyday walk through life and as such, is also a main contributor to the overall picture of health in everyone\u2019s lives. Too much stress or the improper handling of daily stress, and you can \u201cblow a circuit\u201d causing your blood pressure to rise, your heart to work harder because it speeds up and wear down your thyroid and immune system.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>There are 4 ways to deal with stress that everyone needs to learn:<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">1. Positive Self Talk <span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>(change the way you speak)<\/em><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">2. Learn Emergency Stress Stoppers<\/span> <em>(driving in the slow lane on purpose is a good start here)<\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">3. Find things to take pleasure in<\/span> <em>(laughter is a great medicine!)<\/em><br \/>\n4. <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Daily Relaxation<\/span> <em>(taking slow steady breathes and imagining yourself in your favorite spot is a really simple, quick way to relax even at work)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"The American Heart Association\" href=\"http:\/\/www.heart.org\/HEARTORG\/GettingHealthy\/StressManagement\/FourWaystoDealWithStress\/Four-Ways-to-Deal-with-Stress_UCM_307996_Article.jsp#.T2_hYtldBvw\" target=\"_blank\">The American Heart Association <\/a>has a great website with these same suggestions and lists of the different things you can do to include them into your daily routine.<\/p>\n<p>Well that\u2019s if for now, I am doing a full <strong>Let\u2019s Talk: Heart Health<\/strong> series that will include more details about these two topics and even more information about keeping your heart healthy environmentally, physically and emotionally too.<\/p>\n<p>I would love to hear your feed back on this post, especially any tips or suggestions about heart health for my <strong>Let\u2019s Talk: Heart Health<\/strong> series.<\/p>\n<p>To your Heart Health<\/p>\n<p>Greg Greiman<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
