In the mid 1980\u2019s a friend of mine, actually it was someone I was dating, took me to a \u201cmeeting.\u201d I know what you\u2019re thinking\u2026who would take a date to a network marketing<\/a> meeting? Well, he did and I sat and listened to the presentation. I was pretty excited about what I heard and I really felt like I could make this opportunity work. I thought about it for a few days and decided to sign up and start my new career pushing term life insurance. He asked me to make a list of family or friends that we could visit, so, I came up with a friend of my parents. I thought they would be a good candidate.<\/p>\n So, we showed up at her house unannounced and she politely listened to the presentation. For me, and I could tell for her too, it was pure torture. She\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0want us there. We had interrupted her day and she had no intention of buying. After we left I decided that this type of business just\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0for me. I hated it that much.<\/p>\n About a year later, another guy I was dating wanted to take me to\u2026you guessed it\u2026a \u201cmeeting.\u201d This time it was an Amway presentation.\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0never had anything against Amway, but I knew that I had no interest in network marketing having learned from my first experience so it was easy to turn this one down.<\/p>\n Fast forward about 10 years. Another person I was dating\u2026I know, I really needed to take a close look at who I chose to date. Anyhow, I was taken to a meeting for a new network marketing opportunity offering long distance phone service. Thinking I was more mature and able to handle the sales aspect of the business, I signed up. Once again it seemed impossible to find anyone interested in even listening to what I had to say, and once again I quit knowing that this type of business just simply was not my thing. A funny side note to this experience: about 6 months after I had quit, I received a phone bill in the mail from the company. I knew that I did not have their phone service so I wondered how on earth I got this bill. I called the company and asked them to cancel the service and I asked who could have signed me up. When I heard the name of the person who signed me up for the service without my permission I was shocked. It was my grandfather. I was spammed by my own grandfather.
