I talk to myself.\u00a0 All the time.\u00a0 Folks sometimes pick on me about it.\u00a0 My response is always \u201cIf I talk to myself then I know I\u2019ve had at least one intelligent conversation during the day. I\u2019ve noticed something about folks who talk to themselves.\u00a0 We always know when it\u2019s time to pay attention to someone else who talks to themselves. Not sure why that is.\u00a0 Perhaps a tone in the voice changes when they go from talking to themselves to talking to you.<\/h2>\n

Self talk is different then talking to yourself.\u00a0 Self talk is something everyone does.\u00a0 You are not your mind.\u00a0 You are who your mind talks to.\u00a0 That is self talk.\u00a0 Most folks don\u2019t realize that they are not their minds.\u00a0 Their minds have been in charge for so long they\u2019ve forgotten they have the power to control it rather then it controlling them.\u00a0 That was me a few years back.\u00a0 My self talk was demeaning, depressing and disallowing. \u00a0 I was my own worst enemy.<\/p>\n

A lot has changed sense those days.\u00a0 I got involved with people who were willing to take a stand for me. People who made me own my shit.\u00a0 Who wouldn\u2019t let me lay the blame for my life outside myself.\u00a0 Most of it came via books.\u00a0 Yes, authors can make you step up, if you apply what they\u2019ve written to you instead of to everyone else you know.\u00a0 Some of it was through flesh and blood people who came into my life.\u00a0 Most of it was painful but all of it was worth it.<\/p>\n

What do the conversations sound like you have with yourself?\u00a0 If they do not empower you, if they do not increase your belief that you are worth the best of everything, if they do not build you up and make you feel like there is nothing you can\u2019t do; it\u2019s time to take charge of your brain and tell it to change they way it talks to you. It\u2019s time to stop agreeing with thoughts that don\u2019t serve you and re-program the operating system into one that does.\u00a0 Things in your life will change.<\/p>\n

Personally, I went from a job I hated to one I liked.\u00a0 From one I liked to one I loved.\u00a0 I\u2019m in the process now of building a business that will allow me to leave the job I love and move into a life I love even more. I went from not liking myself much, to loving myself above everyone else.<\/p>\n

One of the most freeing passages in the bible is the one where Jesus says \u201cYou must love your neighbor as you love yourself\u201d.\u00a0 That passage is always taken out of context by religious people.\u00a0 It is not saying be a doormat.\u00a0 Sell you life down the river to everyone who wants a piece of it. Your life was given to you, not everyone around you.\u00a0 What Jesus was really saying is that until you know how to love yourself, you will never know how to truly love anyone else. When you know the value of your own life, then you can choose on purpose to put someone else first for the moment.\u00a0 You can\u2019t do that unless you understand that you deserve to come first in your life.\u00a0 Everyone deserves to come first in their life.\u00a0 And that works just fine long as everyone understands the correctness of it.\u00a0 Where it gets us in trouble is when we want what we want at someone else\u2019s\u00a0 expense.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m going to put myself first.\u00a0 And I want you to put me first as well so there is no cost to me for the choices I make\u201d. \u00a0 Sadly that is how most of us play the game.\u00a0 Love your neighbor as you love yourself.\u00a0 Let it be okay for you to come first in your life.\u00a0 Let it be okay for them to come first in their lives. Stop blaming others for being as selfish as you are when you are in pain.\u00a0 It is your own choices that cause you pain.<\/p>\n

When I got it, that my life was supposed to be about me, my self talk began to change.\u00a0 I started thinking about what I liked, what a really great life for me would hold.\u00a0 I began to believe that I was worth having that life and that no one had the right to keep it from me.\u00a0 I let others off the hook for my not having it.\u00a0 Hope and joy returned.\u00a0 I started having fun again.\u00a0 Life is supposed to be fun. I sing to myself again as I go through my day. I still talk to myself.\u00a0 Follow me around on the job and you\u2019re likely to get an earful.\u00a0 But it will be a much more pleasant earful because my self talk has taken on a much more delightful flavor. Life is good again, very very good\u2026\u2026..<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
