But, he said, the spotlight on Apple leaves a lot of American companies in the shadows.

“The fact is, many of our older, more experienced executives at fabulous American companies used the recession to not only take (market) share and obliterate their weaker competitors, they’ve also taken advantage of the Federal Reserve’s policy of low rates to strengthen their balance sheets and pay down high-cost debt,” Cramer said.

Which companies does Cramer think are the best-run?

IBM

To Cramer, International Business Machines (IBM) is a “classic American company.” The Armonk, N.Y., company provides a variety of information technology products and services.

AT&T

Cramer says he finds it amazing how much money AT&T (T) can make in a sluggish economy.

Honeywell International

Honeywell International (HON) is an industrial conglomerate that makes everything from cockpit electronics to control systems for large buildings. CEO Dave Cote has transformed Honeywell into a global business that looks for growth opportunities around the world, Cramer said.

Eaton

Cleveland-based Eaton (ETN) is a diversified manufacturer that makes everything from electrical and hydraulic systems to auto and truck components. Cramer has praised CEO Sandy Cutler for going global in his search for growth.

United Technologies

Diversified manufacturer United Technologies (UTX) is the parent company of jet engine maker Pratt & Whitney, Otis elevators and Carrier heating and cooling. Cramer credits Louis R. Chênevert, the company’s chairman and chief executive, with focusing on growth opportunities.

DuPont

Chemicals giant E. I. du Pont deNemours (DD) is better known as DuPont. The Wilmington, Del., company has a “phenomenal” CEO in Ellen Kullman, said Cramer. She moved DuPont “away from the whims of the U.S. economy,” he added, and positioned DuPont to benefit from secular trends in health care, alternative energy and food production.

PPG Industries

PPG Industries (PPG) is a maker of paints, stains and sealants. CEO Charles Bunch deserves credit for turning the Pittsburgh company into a “worldwide coatings powerhouse,” Cramer said, adding that Bunch’s leadership has led to margin improvement, better sales and record profits.

During a recent appearance on Cramer’s television show, Bunch said he was more bullish on the U.S. economy than he has been in years, citing relatively low energy costs in the United States and rising wages in China.

“I would say that the China cost advantage in many energy-intensive industries is diminishing,” Bunch said. “The U.S. now is going to be much more competitive on the global scene, in terms of manufacturing costs.”

General Electric

General Electric (GE) makes a wide array of products, including health care equipment, turbines and aircraft parts. Still, Cramer said, many investors think of GE as a finance company.

General Electric’s finance arm, GE Capital, was negatively impacted by the financial crisis, but the unit has begun to turn things around.

http://money.msn.com/investing/cramers-9-best-run-us-companies

P.S. I AM Peter Pocklington. As interesting as Jim Cramer’s opinion is, drawing the wrong conclusions from it can be seriously detrimental to the growth of your investment portfolio. That is why we have created an education-based financial services organization that works face-to-face, belly-to-belly with the families of Main Street America.
