Mother\u2019s Day Shooting In New Orleans. At Least 17 Injured<\/h2>\n

At least 17 people were injured at a mother\u2019s day shooting<\/strong> that accured in New Orleans<\/p>\n

As many as 17 people in New Orleans were injured on Sunday that is now called the mother\u2019s day shooting<\/em> when multiple gunmen opened fire on a Mother\u2019s Day<\/em> parade, police said.<\/p>\n

One of the victims was a young female between the ages of 9 and 10-years old, according to police. She was grazed by a bullet and is in good condition. Another person sustained an injury as parade members ran from the gun fire.<\/p>\n

None of the injuries are expected to be fatal.<\/p>\n

Authorities saw three people running away from the scene after the shooting. At least one suspect was described as a man between ages of 18 and 22.<\/p>\n

Mother\u2019s Day Shooting In New Orleans. At Least 17 Injured<\/h2>\n

New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said there may have been as many as three shooters, and that two different types of weapons were likely used.<\/p>\n

The victims were marching in what is known as a second line parade, common in New Orleans: A brass band plays while marching in the streets, while a \u201csecond line\u201d of people follows the band, celebrating.<\/p>\n

Serpas said the parade was just a few blocks long.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are unusual circumstances. We have second lines which occur in the city of New Orleans virtually every weekend at this time of the year,\u201d said Serpas. \u00a0\u201cWe had a full complement of police officers. It appears that these 2 or 3 people just for a reason unknown to us, started shooting at towards, or in the crowd. It was over in just a couple seconds.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Detectives are conducting interviews and retrieving surveillance video from around the crime scene. A spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department said he is confident swift arrests will be made.<\/p>\n
