What were the chances of meeting Dave Wood?<\/h2>\n

Just like I met Bill Gates years ago completely by pure force of will, I met Dave Wood<\/strong> tonight. This is my story: (note: I started writing this blog post<\/a> on Sept 20, 2012 on my phone and added to the story over time)<\/span><\/p>\n

How many synchronous events had to happen to get me face to face with this rock star figure? A lot. First of all, my sponsor John bought tickets for me and some people for this Empower Network<\/a> event in San Diego so I owed him money. The bank was a few blocks away from my hotel.<\/span><\/p>\n

I got it, hailed a cab and set off for the Fox News sports bar in the Hilton hotel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Traffic. People in the street. Train. Just as we crossed the intersection, frantic red lights flashed and the wooden drawbridge dropped over the road. Our cab screeched to a halt. Just missed it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Waiting. Waiting endlessly. No train. <\/span>Where is the train?<\/em> Finally. After about ten minutes a little three car train passed us by.<\/span><\/p>\n

More waiting. I thought to myself.<\/span><\/p>\n

There must be something good that will come out of this\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

All the while the meter was running in the cab.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally we arrived at the Hilton. I paid for the cab and stepped inside.<\/span><\/p>\n

The place was teeming with Empower Network people. There was a bar, but it wan\u2019t the one I was looking for. Signs for the Fox News sports bar pointed down the huge escalator then out the hotel towards the ocean a hundred yards later. After a few minutes of wandering about I found my destination. I had to walk all around the hotel and looking around, I didn\u2019t see John. My phone went beep. A text.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where are you?<\/em><\/p>\n

I replied, <\/span>at the Fox News sports bar. Where are you?<\/em> No answer.<\/span><\/p>\n

The bar tender was starting to shut down for the night, so I walked over to the fire pit where we were supposed to meet.<\/span><\/p>\n

A family was sat there watching the flames. Was I too late?<\/span><\/p>\n

I decided to leave and find another way back to the Hilton.<\/span><\/p>\n

Walking back to the front entrance, I came to a pair of cold glass doors the blocked the escalator. They didn\u2019t open.<\/span><\/p>\n

A little sign next to them read :<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRoom key required for entry after midnight.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

It was a few minutes past midnight.<\/span><\/p>\n

I turned to head back the way I came, when I saw someone coming down the escalator. I ran back and just made it inside before the glass doors closed behind me as the man passed through.<\/span><\/p>\n

I floated up the escalator and found myself at the bar I\u2019d seen on the way in. I grabbed myself what felt like a well deserved beer and turned around. And who did I see? Dave Wood<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

He reached out and shook my hand. We had a brief conversation about our shared times in Hawaii and he introduced me to one of his top leaders who shot my photo for the empower network blog..<\/span><\/p>\n

To put this into perspective, David Wood<\/a> is like most celebrities, flanked by body guards and generally inaccessible. Getting his attention requires a bit of magic. It was my intention to meet him and have a good conversation with him. One that he would remember and would set me apart from the usual crowd of raving fans.<\/span><\/p>\n

I asked if it would be okay to take a photo with him and he said he\u2019d be swarmed if he did. He said, tomorrow night at the party.<\/span><\/p>\n

I will remember you.<\/em><\/p>\n

And so our conversation ended.<\/span><\/p>\n

The next night, true to his word, we had a quick chance to shoot the photo above before a swarm of fans rushed in..<\/span><\/p>\n

Dave Wood Impact..<\/h3>\n

The moral of this story is the power of acceptance, and how seemingly random events can lead to a destination or destiny meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

My impression of David Wood is that he does whatever he chooses to, he is an open book. He is open to connections with people who prove themselves by being leaders in Empower Network, and his heart is in the right place.<\/span><\/p>\n
