So much buzz. Laughter, conversation a whirl of activity and interaction. I\u2019m quietly observing and waiting but for what?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Nothing really, I\u2019m just taking it in, processing information putting my inner power to work. I\u2019m not anti-social or conceded.<em> I am an Introvert.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">I\u2019m not talking about being shy that\u2019s something different. Shyness is about self-esteem. It\u2019s about worrying what other people think, feeling anxiety about interactions. I do know about being shy too but it\u2019s something I can change. You cannot change being an introvert, it\u2019s a part of your core personality.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>So what are the some of principle traits of an introvert?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">They are energized by alone time<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Are adept at subtlety<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Thoughtful<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Think before they speak<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Are good listeners<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Tend to have deep relationships with a small circle friends<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">If you can relate to these traits then you are an introvert. Depending on what study you look at anywhere from 25%-40% of the population are introverts. With so many introverts it\u2019s surprising that there\u2019s so much social bias about introverts. How many times have you been told you need to smile more or that you\u2019re too quiet or you seem distant?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">I was out one night and asked \u201cWhy do you look miserable all the time, you should smile\u201d. (First of all thanks), I said I do smile I just don\u2019t walk around with a smile on my face all the time. If I did people would just think I\u2019m crazy. He actually got it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Being an introvert is not a handicap. You can accomplish whatever you set out to do by being yourself. If you do a search on famous introverted celebrities you\u2019ll find everyone from Barbara Streisand to Bill Gates. Remember that introversion has nothing to do with confidence. You can be as confident as the most outgoing extrovert and you can also be an extrovert who\u2019s shy and lacking in self confidence.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Can an introvert succeed in the business world?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Absolutely. You don\u2019t need to hide behind the computer either. You just need to plan. Networking events can be mentally exhausting for an introvert. So set your goals before you get there. What would you like to get out of the event specifically. New contacts? How many? For what purpose? You get the idea. Make the most of your time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">If you\u2019re an introvert, celebrate. You have powers that just happen to be on the inside. Recognize that you have strengths and play to those strengths. You are a thoughtful leader, a trusted confidant and a generally cool person. You even like to have fun, you\u2019re an introvert not a hermit.
