Have you ever looked around your home and thought, \u201cboy this house is a mess<\/em>\u201c?<\/p>\n Probably so but most clutterers don\u2019t have a clue where to start<\/strong>.. How do I know?<\/p>\n Because\u00a0I was a clutterer\u00a0once and it pained me to see my home in such a mess.<\/p>\n But finally one day, I had a wakeup call.<\/p>\n A good friend of mines came over one day unanounced. I didn\u2019t have time to do my usual \u201cthrow stuff in the room and close the door\u201d routine so it was what it was.<\/p>\n He didn\u2019t say anything at first but he walked in my bathroom and all I heard was<\/p>\n \u201cD your bathroom is FILTHY\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Of course I thought he was joking but he was serious as a fat kid at a cake eating contest. It was my awakening moment that brought the thought in my head that \u201cDennis it\u2019s time to declutter your life<\/em>\u201c.<\/p>\n Now before I get into it, I want to say that I wish I could take full credit for all these tips on how to declutter your life but the truth is, I learned from everything I know about decluttering from the DeCarlo Declutter System.<\/p>\n First thing I did was go through the house and identify everything that I hadn\u2019t used in the last 6 months. Turns out there was a lot.<\/p>\n Yes all that stuff; even the Michael Jackson\u00a0portrait. Thought I could flip it on ebay. Ended up having it for 2 years with no action.<\/p>\n When it comes to decluttering your house<\/strong>, you can\u2019t think about it. You just have to do it. Get it over with. If you think about it, you may have memories and have 2nd thoughts about throwing it away.<\/p>\n This makes so much sense. That same friend is a major clutterer<\/em> but he\u2019s no filthy. He was mad because I didn\u2019t ask him if he wanted any of the stuff. I figured if I gave it to him, I would be hurting his decluttering<\/strong> efforts.<\/p>\n When I was decluttering my home<\/strong>, I put my cell phone on silent so there would be no distractions. I have self diagnosed ADHD so it doesn\u2019t take much for me to get off track.<\/p>\n When you\u2019re decluttering<\/span> with no distractions, it makes time go by so much faster and effortless.<\/p>\n If you have to do this in every room, do it. Designate a decluttering corner<\/strong> where you will place everything that\u2019s going in the trash<\/strong>.<\/p>\n I would even suggest maybe putting down a sheet so when you\u2019re done decluttering<\/em>, you can just grab each corner and make one trip; and that brings me to my next and final point\u2026<\/p>\n Declutter your life tip 5 \u2013 Mentally detach yourself from everything<\/p>\n This is going to be tough for some but the way I did this was as soon as I made the decision to throw something away, I threw it without a care in the world, into the decluttering corner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Once I threw it, my mind somewhat registered it as trash and I didn\u2019t care about it anymore.<\/p>\nWhat made you want to declutter your life Dennis?<\/h2>\n
