What can save marriage when everything seems hopeless? \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Marriage is considered a sacred institution by most of the world\u2019s religions.\u00a0 It is the foundation of the family, which, in turn, is the foundation for society.\u00a0 So, there is a lot of emphasis on saving a marriage.<\/p>\n But that doesn\u2019t mean that marriages today don\u2019t run into trouble.\u00a0 The changing roles of men ad women, financial pressures, and difficulties with children all make it hard to make marriages work.<\/p>\n So who do you turn to?<\/p>\n Perhaps the best place to look is the institution that values marriage more than any other \u2013 the church.<\/p>\n While a clinical psychologist or licensed family therapist will take an individualistic approach to marriage counseling, a pastor will focus on making the marriage work in a wholistic sense.\u00a0 Over all, this has a better chance of actually saving the marriage.<\/p>\n Why is a pastoral counselor better than a secular therapist?<\/p>\n A secular therapist\u2019s education focuses almost entirely on treating individual psychopathologies.\u00a0 Even \u201cMarriage and Family\u201d designated counselors may have only one class or elective dealing specifically with couple\u2019s therapy.\u00a0 Do you think this approach can save marriage?<\/p>\n A pastoral counselor, on the other hand, will be educated in how to bring couples closer together.\u00a0 With the exception of abuse in the relationship, they have the fundamental belief that once the vows are taken, the marriage is forever.<\/p>\n Some pastoral counselors have formal education in counseling.\u00a0 More and more seminaries are offering pastoral counseling degrees.\u00a0 But even ministers without a formal degree take classes and seminars in the subject.<\/p>\n If you don\u2019t have a church home, you might have some difficulty finding a pastor to help you.\u00a0 And, you don\u2019t have six months to establish membership in a church before approaching the pastor.<\/p>\n In this case, you can call various churches and ask them if they have any upcoming couples retreats where you can save marriage through these weekend seminars.\u00a0 Once you have established a relationship with a skilled pastor in these settings, you may be able to do follow up counselor with the same person.<\/p>\n A good couple\u2019s retreat will help you deal with many different types of issues.\u00a0 There will be group sessions and couple\u2019s sessions.\u00a0 You will also have time to work on questions individually.<\/p>\n Communication is a big issue at these conferences.\u00a0 If you can work on your communications issues, you will find that the other pieces of the relationship fall into place.<\/p>\n Sex, finances, and child raising are also addressed.\u00a0 The goal is to get you back on track in every aspect of your relationship.\u00a0 You don\u2019t have to be on the same page going in, but the hope is that you will be when you leave.<\/p>\n Marriage is tough.\u00a0 Sometimes it seems like the relationship cannot endure.\u00a0 But, there are so many reasons to see if you can\u2019t make it work.\u00a0 In this case, consider seeing if a pastor can save marriage.<\/p>\n
