But I think you’ll agree that it implies much more than that. To me, it implies an exclusivity of attention that defies any other distraction. In other words, you direct ALL of your energies to whatever activity or task you are engaged in, and exclude everything else…. for an extended period of time or until the task is completed to your satisfaction.

Sounds easy doesn’t it? In fact learning to focus is a skill just like any other and how easy it is depends on the person learning the skill. Check out this Tony Robbins video…..

So what do you think of Tony Robbins’ 3 Pillar concept? I know that I can relate to it. He says ‘Success Leaves Clues’. What a great statement! Rather than starting everything from scratch you find mentors who already have results and model yourself after them – such a simple but effective concept.

It’s always important if you are learning to focus that you create the right set of circumstances to make the job just that much easier. With that in mind I have regurgitated these steps from one of my previous blog posts in the hope that it will help to spur people on to master the Art of Focus.

Six Tips To Maintain Your Focus

1. What you eat and drink does affect your focus. Obviously, if you consume alcohol or drugs of any kind, your attention span will be considerably compromised. So if you want to stay focused – don’t party! Remember that alcohol is a depressant, and we all know that drugs simply fry your brain!

2. Drinking lots of water or water-based drinks really does help. It keeps you on track and is really beneficial to your health. Tea or a similar low caffeine drink is also OK as an alternative but coffee is less preferable as although the caffeine keeps your eyes open, do you really want to work and be wired at the same time? And don’t forget the health risks of too many cups of joe.

3. Healthy snacks are great such as raw carrots or celery, and fruit and nuts are highly suitable to help maintain focus. Chocolate bars are the same as coffee – a no-no!

4. Your work location is important. If you are sitting in a dark and dingy room with little natural light and very poor air circulation, you won’t get much done and you may even fall asleep before you know it! So find a well lit, well ventilated room or area to maximize your focal abilities.

5. How you sit is a critical factor. Find an ergonomic chair with a back that supports you and yet is comfortable to sit in for long periods. Also make sure that you sit at a comfortable level when staring at a computer screen. You don’t want to be looking UP at a screen but rather sit slightly elevated looking down at the screen. Your eyes will not get so tired this way but in any case look away from the screen every 5 – 10 minutes to reset your eye muscles.

6. When all else fails and you simply cannot focus for whatever reason, just stop working and go for a walk!

Please Like, Share and Comment on this post on Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

One of the dictionary definitions of Focus is ‘directed attention’.
