continues to draw awareness among many marketers, most especially online marketers. Many think that it\u2019s the golden ticket to a better life, actually it is, but there are a couple problems with holding<\/p>\n

as your main goal in business and life:<\/p>\n

1. You Can\u2019t Stay Ahead of Competition Passively<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can\u2019t manage this competition while sipping margaritas all day from your paradise restaurant on Fiji. You\u2019ll soon see your market share go down the drain\u2014you need to do something, waiting won\u2019t cut it, work on it until you get to the point that all that hard work pays off and only then can you see your passive income reap its benefits.<\/p>\n

2. You can\u2019t maintain loyal Customers Passively<\/strong><\/p>\n

As soon as your customers realize that you don\u2019t care about them (which you don\u2019t, if you\u2019re trying to get away from them as fast as possible), they will eventually go elsewhere, to someone else who actually\u00a0does<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>care about them and their needs \u2013<\/p>\n

3. You Can\u2019t Lead people Passively<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re going to be building a large, scalable business, sooner or later you\u2019re going to need employees and\/or freelancers (even if they\u2019re spread out over the world virtually).<\/p>\n

You\u2019re not going to attract great talent<\/a> in long run by indirectly telling them that you have no interest in being involved in the business whatsoever.<\/a><\/p>\n

Some people obsessed with \u201cpassive income\u201d say, in response, \u201cNo problem, I\u2019ll just hire a leader to do all that managing, motivating, and creating stuff!\u201d<\/p>\n

What you\u2019re essentially saying, then, is that you\u2019re adding zero value to the equation. You\u2019re not coming up with the ideas, you\u2019re not implementing\/executing the ideas, and you\u2019re not leading anyone to implement or execute them.<\/p>\n

4. You Can\u2019t Create Meaning, Passion, or Purpose in Your Life Passively<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had several conversations recently with people in their twenties who have built up some semblance of moderate passive income<\/strong> (for now, before the competition gets the better of them, or their team implodes in disarray for lack of care, or their revenue collapses for lack of customer development or innovation.)<\/p>\n

<\/a>These people are (for now) living the dream\u2013they get to travel to Fiji or some other exotic location<\/a> on an instant and hang out on the beach, funded by their little niche ebook<\/em> or whatever.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had conversations with several of them to help them determine \u201cwhat the purpose of their life is\u201d now that they have some amount of money coming in from some little passive income<\/em> they don\u2019t even care about that much. It all feels empty to them.<\/p>\n

This is the basic mistake they\u2019ve made: they\u2019ve fallen prey to the belief that money and meaning are two totally separate things.<\/p>\n

In Essence<\/strong><\/p>\n

Passive income is great once you\u2019ve accumulated enough time and effort to reap its awesome reward. Again, let me emphasize that, after you\u2019ve worked hard for it. But if you\u2019re just gonna be staking your whole future on it and do nothing, then you\u2019re missing the whole point and the main idea behind that awesome fruit \u2013 passive income<\/span>.<\/p>\n
