Nikola Tesla held more than three hundred patents and gave the world alternating current, and almost nobody outside a few history buffs can tell you his name. That’s not a footnote. That’s the whole lesson in this episode: brilliant ideas die in silence if you can’t say them right, and a rambling car salesman almost proved the same thing to Randy Gage in the worst possible way. Here’s the episode.

As you absorb the content in today’s episode, I want you to think about your communication habits, how you speak to other people, and not just how you say it, but what you actually say. See, words are powerful. Are you exercising your power of words? Are you choosing the right words? Are you respecting and loving through your words? Whether you’re speaking or whether you’re writing, there’s not a more powerful way to influence the minds of men and women than words.

There’s that old saying, the pen is mightier than the sword. And that always proves to be true. Written or spoken out loud, you can take an idea that didn’t exist just moments before and create a revolution that changes the face of the earth. What you say or write factors into the decisions people will make about you. Your words can build you up, or they can destroy your relationships. With the power of words, you can turn an enemy into a friend and create an asset out of what was previously declared a weakness. You can frame a product or service in the perfect light that will make people want to buy from you. You can mend broken hearts and create clarity and trust. You can make people say, “I trust you.”

The greatest ideas in the whole world are nothing without your ability to communicate those ideas to the world. A simple choice of one word can make the difference between someone accepting or denying your message. Probably the greatest inventor of all time was Nikola Tesla, the first inventor to hold more than 300 patents. Yet somehow he’s one of the most silent figures in history. Barely anyone outside little fringe groups even remembers his name. Without Tesla, we wouldn’t have AC, alternating current, the power source that powers the world. The Tesla coil is the foundation for all wireless communication, and the list continues almost forever. So why don’t people remember him? Because he, like many other brilliant minds with ideas that would change the ages, couldn’t communicate his message to the world in a way people could understand. So there lies a greatness in man, all his brilliance almost forgotten, hidden in the whispers of time.

The Magical Property of Words

Let’s move into something a little bit more abstract and metaphysical. I believe there’s a magical property that words have, and I say magical because it’s not yet able to be described by modern science. Have you ever wondered why words can hurt you so much? Think about the last time you were hurt really bad by somebody else’s words. When someone says something offensive that hurts you at a very deep level, to your core, it can feel like they’re stabbing you with a sword. It can even be more painful. Words can hurt you like this because they carry a sort of vibration and energy and intention from the person speaking them or writing them, and the right vibration and energy can penetrate your body, harming you or healing you at the deepest level of your being.

When you speak words, you are casting your thoughts and vibrations into the earth’s magnetic field, the energy field that creates the reality of the earth. Or are you? By doing this, you’re speaking your world into existence. People create in their life exactly what they’re expecting, all the time. I can’t believe how consistent this is, even when we think it’s not. The words that you think create the reality you experience. You could easily be handed the easiest way to make money on the planet, a goose that lays literal golden eggs, and if you don’t believe that it will work, it won’t. Or maybe you’ll sabotage it. If you tell yourself you’re going to fail, you’ll fail. If you tell yourself you’re going to succeed, you’ll succeed. In his groundbreaking book 1984, George Orwell stated, “if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.” Words have magical properties, don’t they?

So you need to ask yourself a question right now. How are you communicating your ideas? And how are you communicating with your own unconscious and conscious minds? Does your outward message come across as egocentric, perhaps? Maybe hard to understand, or too complex? Look at how you speak, and how you speak to yourself internally, and you’ll likely find your answer. Many people judge communication by the less important measures, like sentence structure, like grammar, things that bear little reflection of the actual effectiveness of a message. I want you to always remember something: the meaning of your communication is not what you say. The meaning of your communication is the result that it produces in the listeners. There’s only this one way to judge, and this is it. Does that communication produce the results that you desire?

Randy Gage and the Rambling Car Salesman

A new marketer, not realizing that explaining a product is different than selling it, might spend a majority of his words extolling the magnetic features of a particular product, how wonderful this particular kind of paint is. He might rally around the ingredients in a vitamin, or maybe the leadership of a particular company. Not realizing, truthfully, nobody cares.

I remember hearing a story from Randy Gage, who’s a network marketing trainer, about when he walked into a dealership to buy a new car. He walked onto a car lot, went up to a Mustang, and was almost ready to pull his credit card out of his pocket, because he has a lot of money, and he had already made a decision to buy. Have you ever had a prospect about ready to make a decision, ready to join, and then, unknowingly, without even being aware of it, you do something that causes the sale to not be made like it was going to before?

The salesman walked up and, without any introduction, went into a long sales fuss about the features of the car, the special kind of paint it had, the horsepower, and how many years it took to design. Just at the moment when he almost decided not to buy the car, Randy looked at the rambling poor salesman about to lose a sale and said, “Look, buddy, I’ve got two questions here.” “Okay,” replied the salesman, expecting something technical, like how many layers of paint it actually has. “So shoot, what’s your question?” “If I buy this car right now, will I look cool and go fast?” “Uh, yeah,” he says, and looked a little bit confused. “Then here’s my credit card. Can you get me out of here in an hour? Because I don’t have time for this.” Of course, I’m paraphrasing the story, and probably messed it up and changed his words, so don’t say that he actually said it exactly like that. But you get the idea. Randy, like a lot of entrepreneurs, can’t tell if a car has a refrigerating unit installed instead of an engine, and could give a crap. He just wants to look cool. He wants to go fast.

What Your Prospects Actually Want

So think about this. What do your prospects want? Do they want the best compensation plan? Do they want coded bonuses? Do they want upfront residual income? Do they want a pass-up plan? Do they want to be in the hot new deal? Not really. No, they don’t. That stuff is like the car paint to Randy Gage. Only about one in a hundred people in all of network marketing understand a comp plan after it’s explained to them and they think about it for a long time. And they all argue about what’s better, depending on what they’re in at the time. Amazingly, unilevels, binaries, coded bonus plans, matrixes, the dreaded stair-step breakaway, they’ve all produced huge teams and huge income somehow. Your prospects want to look cool. They want to go fast. And then they make a decision to join immediately.

What are the real reasons your prospects will join the team? Because they want to make money. They have the desire. They dream of it late in the night. They stay up staring into the darkness and imagine money flowing like a river into their bank account daily. Because they want to feel good, to be confident, to feel loved and appreciated, and to have self-esteem. Because they long to sink their toes into the hot sand on the beaches of time, looking out over the endless crystal blue waters in Costa Rica, drinking out of a coconut daily. Maybe that’s just me. But they want it now, without doing the grunt work.

Believe that you can. Tell yourself that you can, and you must, and you will, every day. Your words have power. Will you use it for good or evil? Go out and speak your world into existence.

Hey there, my friend. David Wood here with this episode of The Daily Shortcut. As you absorb and digest the content in today's episode, I want you to think about your communication habits, how you speak to other people, and not just how you say it, what you actually say. And that's important too. See, words are powerful.

So think about that in your own life. Are you exercising your power of words? Are you choosing the right words? Are you respecting and loving through your words? Whether you're speaking or whether you're writing, there's not a more powerful way to influence the minds of men and women than words.

There's that old saying, the pen is more mighty than the sword. And that always proves to be true. Written out loud or spoken out loud, you can take an idea that didn't exist just moments before and create a revolution that changes the face of the earth. The words you use can influence. You can influence how others perceive you.

So it's time to pay attention and recognize the faults you might have made in your business or life using the power of words. What you say or write factors into the decisions people will make about you. They can build you up or they can destroy your relationships. With the power of words, you can turn an enemy into a friend and create an asset out of what was previously declared as a weakness. You can frame a product or service in the perfect light that will make people want to buy from you.

You can connect and form alliances with other great minds. You can mend broken hearts and create clarity and trust. You can make people say, I trust you. The greatest ideas in the whole world are nothing without your ability to communicate those ideas to the world. A simple choice of one word can make the difference between someone existing and someone not existing.

You can frame a product or service in the perfect light. Accepting or denying your message and probably the greatest inventor, for example, of all time was Nikola Tesla, being the first inventor of all time to hold more than 300 patents. Yet somehow he's one of the most silent figures in history. Barely anyone outside little fringe groups even remembers his name. Yet without Tesla, we wouldn't have AC, which is alternating current power, which is the power source that powers the world.

Tesla Coil is the foundation for all wireless communication and the list continues almost forever. So why don't people remember him? Because he, like many other brilliant minds with the ideas that would change the ages, couldn't communicate his message with the world in a way that you can understand. So there lies a greatness in man and all his brilliance almost forgotten that's hidden in the whispers of time and the power. Let's move into something a little bit more abstract and metaphysical.

I believe there's a magical property that words have, and I say magical because it's not yet able to be described by modern science. Their power expands beyond the basics of effective communication. Have you ever wondered why words can hurt you so much? Think about the last time you were hurt really bad by somebody else's words. When someone says something offensive that hurts you at a very deep level.

To your core. It can feel like you're stabbing, they're stabbing you with a sword. It can even be more painful. Words can hurt you like this because they carry a sort of vibration and energy and intention from the person speaking them or writing them. The right vibration and energy can easily penetrate your body, harming you or healing you at the deepest level of your being.

When you speak words, you are casting your thoughts and vibrations. Into the Earth's magnetic field, the energy field that creates the reality of the Earth. Or are you? By doing this, you're speaking your world into existence. Our words not only have an impact on the world, but more importantly, they have an impact on how your life will play out for you.

People create in their life exactly what they're expecting all the time. I can't believe how consistent this is, even when we think it's not. When you believe, the words that you think create the reality you experience. You could easily be handed the easiest way to make money on the planet, a goose that lays literal golden eggs. And if you don't believe that it will work, it won't.

Or maybe you'll sabotage it. Your self-talk, your private thoughts have power over the actual manifestation of the great things you're creating now in your life. If you tell yourself you're going to fail, you'll fail. If you tell yourself you're going to succeed, you'll succeed. In his groundbreaking book, 1984, George Orwell stated this, but if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.

Once you know the real power of words, you will know that words can affect your energy because it has the ability to direct and control energy to a certain point. Because of this, words do. Words have magical properties, don't they? So, you need to ask yourself a question right now. How are you communicating your ideas?

And how are you communicating with your own unconscious and conscious minds? Does your outward message come across as egocentric perhaps? Maybe hard to understand or too complex? Or for some reason, it just doesn't produce the exact results that you want? Look at how you speak.

Maybe you speak to yourself internally, and you'll likely find your answer.
