Last night the Seattle Seahawks defeated the SanFrancisco 49ners in a playoff game that earned them the right to meet the Denver Broncos in the upcoming Super Bowl game.<\/p>\n
It was a great game that ended on a great play with Richard Sherman deflecting the last second touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree in the end zone.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the kind of ending that kid\u2019s, playing street football, dream of making one day in their lives.<\/p>\n
But it was darkened by the poor sportsmanship displayed by Sherman after the play was over.<\/p>\n
He raced over to Crabtree and taunted him with gestures and words that caused Crabtree to push him away as Crabtree walked off the field.<\/p>\n
Now I know that all sports are played on a very high emotional level. These guys work hard at being the best they can be, and when it comes down to these final big games, they will leave no stone unturned. That\u2019s what defines true champions from the rest of the crowd.<\/p>\n
Sherman no doubt is in this category, but so are the rest of the guys as well. He\u2019s not by himself here.<\/p>\n
His rant and ravings, as he was interviewed, don\u2019t do him any justice. There is no excuse for that kind of behavior.<\/p>\n
I remember Barry Sanders, one of the greatest players to ever play the game, would just hand the football to the refs and trot off the field as his teammates would mob him in wild jubilation.<\/p>\n
Now I want to compare this to a great man that we celebrate today, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr..<\/p>\n
He lived with great passion, desire, and at a very high emotional level as well, but his game was for the justice, freedom, and rights of those that didn\u2019t have a voice to speak.<\/p>\n
He made some incredible plays during his career also, even to the point of giving up his life for what he believed to be right.<\/p>\n
Yet he was humble, and showed respect and dignity to those that hated him.<\/p>\n
Two years from now we won\u2019t even remember Richard Sherman\u2019s play from yesterday\u2019s game, but today some fifty years later, we still remember and honor the name and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr..<\/p>\n
Richard Sherman is a great football player with an extreme amount of talent, but his game is just a football game. His skills would be totally lacking when it comes to the game of life.<\/p>\n
