A couple weeks ago,\u00a0 my boyfriend and I ran into a guy who literally knocked us off our feet.\u00a0 He was the most polite and funny person we\u2019d ever met.\u00a0 That is unusual in this town because not many people come up to you out of the blue and start talking to you.\u00a0 He was very intelligent and very happy when he was talking.\u00a0 He had a different accent which is not common in Colorado Springs, and so we asked him where he was from.\u00a0 Sudan, Africa is what he replied.<\/p>\n
Immediately we both thought of the African Safari\u2019s and all the wild animals there.\u00a0 My boyfriend asked him about living amongst the giraffes and stuff.. and Basheir started laughing..\u00a0 He explained to us that Africa is not all wild animals and safari\u2019s like people think.\u00a0 There are major cities there.\u00a0 He was from Sudan.\u00a0 We were both shocked to hear this.\u00a0 What we see on TV is not all there is.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t know this.\u00a0 Because of TV, media and our own ignorance (mine included) we tend to stereotype<\/u> people based on what we know.. and in some cases, we rely on TV and media to give us those stereotype<\/em> views.<\/p>\n I was so impressed with Basheir, once I found out he was actually the business owner of the store we were standing in front of.\u00a0 I asked him if I could interview him for my blog.\u00a0 It would give him more exposure and help with his business if people knew about him.\u00a0 He\u2019s not your typical business owner!\u00a0 Here is the interview that we had fun with!!\u00a0 My boyfriend Tom, is the \u201ccustomer\u201d.\u00a0 Pretty funny.. enjoy!<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n This is true unfortunately.\u00a0 You\u2019re driving down the road and you\u2019re at a stoplight.. and a car pulls up next to you.. windows down music and bass blaring and your own car is shaking from it.\u00a0 You immediately think that person must be a ___________.\u00a0 We stereotype<\/span>!<\/p>\n Stereotyping isn\u2019t necessarily prejudice, but I can see why some people think it is.\u00a0 We think, what we are programmed to.\u00a0 What we learn from TV, or other sources.\u00a0 It\u2019s not always a good thing.\u00a0 We need to broaden our mindset and open up for new \u201cprogramming\u201d based on the truth, not just what we hear on the radio, TV, or news.\u00a0 It\u2019s not always true!\u00a0 We need to get our minds out of that silly stereotype<\/strong> mindset and start living life as we should!\u00a0 Don\u2019t let a silly stereotype<\/em> get in our way!<\/p>\n This blog post was done because of my own ignorance to what we think about people from Africa.\u00a0 My mind is now open and I have actually sat down and started doing more studies on Africa.. because I WANT to know!<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n If you\u2019re sitting at home reading this blog, you could be making money writing your own blogs!\u00a0 That\u2019s right!\u00a0 Who told you, you can\u2019t make money from blogging?!\u00a0 Stop thinking that, and get onboard with our team!\u00a0 Make money writing blogs like this and having a blast with it!!\u00a0 I love what I do!\u00a0 Get in and start blogging below!!<\/p>\nWe all tend to stereotype at times<\/h3>\n
