leadership<\/a>.<\/p>\nSince over 90% of Americans would rather die than speak in public (or so they say), I think it\u2019s a good idea for many people to join Toastmasters International. However, you may be wondering if it\u2019s for you? Then this post will clarify it for you.<\/p>\n
\u201cShould I join Toastmasters International?\u201d<\/h2>\n
Now, I have no gain for promoting Toastmasters International. It\u2019s a beneficial organization for everyone, in my opinion. There is also no commercial gain for anyone, as it\u2019s a nonprofit organization.<\/p>\n
There are a few questions you should ask yourself before you consider joining a Toastmasters International group.<\/p>\n
Question 1: Do I want to become a better communicator?<\/p>\n
This question is important because oftentimes, there are miscommunications between people. Have you ever heard someone say one thing, but then say, \u201cBut I meant this! You know what I meant!\u201d That person obviously isn\u2019t an effective communicator and can benefit from Toastmasters International.<\/p>\n
Question 2: Do I want to become a better leader?<\/p>\n
John Maxwell\u2019s Law of the Lid states that the effectiveness of an organization is \u201ccapped\u201d by the effectiveness of the leaders heading the organization. So if your organization is not very effective, become a better leader! Toastmasters International has specific roles that people need to take responsibility for each week, and eventually a person works his or her way up to Mr or Madame Toastmaster, in charge of keeping track of everything in the meeting.<\/p>\n
Question 3: Do I want to become a better public speaker?<\/p>\n
Face it: you may be a great communicator, but many people start stuttering when it comes to speaking in front of large groups of people. Toastmasters International ensures that you get out of your comfort zone and start speaking in front of people. And once you get out of one comfort zone\u2026 who knows, you may step out of others!<\/p>\n
\nThere\u2019s always room to grow. It\u2019s important to have the support of others during the growth process.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Question 4: Do I want to become a better evaluator?<\/p>\n
Every prepared speech is evaluated in terms of the goals it was supposed to have accomplished for the speaker. There are different evaluators each week, and at the end of the evaluation session, they are evaluated by the master evaluator.<\/p>\n
So if you find it difficult to tell a teammate what they are doing wrong, perhaps because you are afraid to hurt their feelings or something, then Toastmasters International can help you become a better critic (not criticizer, critic<\/em>). This sorta ties into becoming a better leader, but I felt it needed its own question.<\/p>\nQuestion 5: Do I want to network with like-minded people?<\/p>\n
The movers and shakers of the world are the ones who can a) get their point across a lot of ears efficiently and b) lead others efficiently.<\/p>\n
If you are looking to meet with people who have a similar end-goal to you, then you will meet them at Toastmasters International. Granted, not every mover and shaker will come from Toastmasters International, nor will every person from Toastmasters International be a mover or shaker. But there\u2019s a higher chance that you will meet a heavy-hitter for your business if you join a Toastmasters International group.<\/p>\n
